An update will streamline the way you share images in Google Photos.

Google Photos has begun rolling out a new update that changes the way users access shared album activity.

Recently, Google has been trying to change the look and functionality of Google Photos, including replacing the Library tab with a Collections tab; Google now appears to be changing the way users use the social aspect of the app by removing the People icon. Currently, this icon sits between the Plus tab and the profile avatar, and offers several shortcuts for creating shared albums, memory carousels, and conversations.

However, in the latest version of the app, discovered by 9to5 Google, this has been replaced with a bell icon. This icon displays an update feed containing shared images, conversations, and links. An overflow menu in the upper corner provides access to shared activities and conversations. Oddly enough, this change seems to occur only on Android devices.

The addition of the bell icon is not that surprising, as it appears in both Google Home and the Play Store and is fairly common across Google apps; it is a bit surprising that Google has placed “Conversations” in a less prominent position, but given the available Given the abundance of messaging apps, it was definitely one of the least used features.

While the changes to the UI are interesting, much has happened to Google Photos to improve usability. One of the most obvious is the inclusion of Gemini AI, including the new Ask Photos feature. Reportedly, this feature will make it easier than ever to understand the context of your gallery; Gemini can also narrate your Google Photos memories. That is, AI-generated memories with narration that can thankfully be turned off.

Google is always working to improve its features, but its changes are not always for everyone. If you're looking for something different, we have a list of the best Google Photos alternatives. Either way, with Black Friday coming up, there's no better time to grab one of the best Android phones.
