Google is looking to simplify access to search history and saved items within the main app, and both the Android and iOS Google apps could be eligible for this very useful upgrade.
Currently, checking history in both Google Chrome and the Google app is somewhat cumbersome. Several different tabs are spread across the two apps, making it cumbersome to quickly check what you need. However, Google is trying to streamline this whole experience by introducing a new way to check both search history and saved items.
According to a recent report by Android Authority, Google is currently testing a new activity tab for the Google app. The purpose of this new tab is to provide a centralized place for users to find their Google Apps and Google Chrome search history. The Activity will also replace the current Saves tab, meaning that all saved items will be in one place.
While using the new Activity tab, users will be able to view and manage their saved items and history. There will also be action options for users, such as the ability to save, share, and delete specific history items directly within the app.
According to initial reports, a Telegram user named @andrey4ik21pro1_q found the new tab on a Pixel 8 Pro running version 15.44.25.29.arm64 of the Google app.
There are many updates coming to Google's functionality, with major changes to the Pixel screenshot feature, for example. Reportedly, we can expect a significantly revised UI that makes capturing easier to view and a new quick access tool. Not only that, but it appears that Pixel phones will be able to take advantage of Android 15's battery-limiting features a bit sooner than expected.
It is not certain when these new tabs will start showing up on users' phones, but once they do, we will try them out ourselves to get a definitive opinion.
