New Apple Magic Accessories Leaked from iOS 18.1 Code - Here's What We Know

Apple has finally brought Apple Intelligence to the iPhone with the release of the latest iOS 18.1 beta version; Apple is expected to announce new M4-based Macs next week, including MacBooks, iMacs, and a redesigned Mac mini. It appears that the new Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad may be introduced along with them.

The updated accessories were spotted on X by Aaron Perris in a release candidate version of iOS 18.1 (via 9to5Mac).

Unless Apple surprises us, this update may be minor.

What can be seen from the code fragment posted by Perris reveals a new .USB ending on the code. This is a strong indication that Apple is about to launch a new Magic accessory with USB-C connectivity. Cupertino is gradually transitioning from Lightning ports to USB-C in order to meet international standards.

The folks at 9to5Mac looked a little deeper and found that the updated accessory will use the current icon for the “.usb” variant.

However, the Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 have not changed functionally since 2015 when they were introduced; the Magic Keyboard was last updated in 2021 when Apple introduced the first M chip in the M1 iMac.

Along with the iOS 18.1 release candidate, Apple also issued a release candidate version of macOS 15.1 that included extensions for the new M4 chip. Currently, the chip is only available in the iPad Pro, which was released in May of this year.

Presumably, Apple will announce updated Magic accessories at the same time as the new M4 Mac devices.
