“The Legend of Vox Machina” has been one of my favorite prime video shows since its debut in 2022. And it looks like it will continue to be one of my favorite Prime Video shows for at least one more season.
Prime Video announced yesterday (October 23) that it will renew this beloved adult fantasy anime show for a fourth season. This news was announced in conjunction with the Season 3 finale, which premiered yesterday on Prime Video.
Personally, I am ecstatic about this news. Prime Video has some great original shows, such as “Fallout,” “Reacher,” and “The Boys,” many of which skirt the same frame of dark, gritty drama.
That's great, but sometimes variety is needed, and I like to vary things up with a good animated show. Especially shows like “The Legend of Vox Machina,” which has plenty of heart and humor to go along with the animated action.
By keeping shows like this, Prime Video keeps the variety of original shows and movies in the same conversation as the best other streaming services.
For those unfamiliar with “The Legend of Vox Machina,” here's an overview of this show, one of our top picks among Prime Video's new shows this month.
This animated fantasy is from the team at Critical Role. Originally adapted from a real-life “Dungeons & Dragons” campaign created by the show's co-creator and star, Matthew Mercer, it became a web series also titled Critical Role. That web series was later adapted as “The Legend of Vox Machina.”
The show is set in the fictional world of Exandria and tells the story of Vox Machina, a band of seven mercenaries on a mercenary hunt for gold, glory, and all other kinds of bad guys. In Season 1, they are on a mission to slay a dragon that is burning down the farmlands of Taldrey. But as soon as that crisis is over, they are each sent on a journey of revenge against an evil couple who are also vampires and powerful wizards.
In Season 2, they are faced with more dragons. This time, however, the dragons came in droves as the newly formed Chroma Conclave. Vox Machina's heroes eventually defeated one of them, but in Season 3, they must defeat the rest of the Conclave, including the leader of the Conclave, Sodak (Lance Reddick), known as the “Cinder King.” Start watching now and catch up on the entire series so far, including last night's season 3 finale.
