New on Netflix: 7 Movies and Shows to Watch This Week (Aug 26-Sept 1)

Topping the list of new Netflix TV shows and movies this week are two Netflix originals

First up is the Netflix show I am most looking forward to this week, Terminator Zero Timothy Olyphant voices the Terminator Consider me officially geeked out

On the movie front, Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels' supernatural thriller “The Deliverance,” starring eight-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close, will be released Also, for those who prefer fact over fiction, several documentaries are arriving this week

Here's a day-by-day roundup of new Netflix shows this week Also check out Netflix's dark thriller, which scored 94% on Rotten Tomatoes

“Untold,” Netflix's sports documentary series: “The Murder of Air McNair” just came to the streaming service last week

This time around, “Untold: Sign Stealing” focuses on Connor Stallions and his role in the Michigan sign-stealing scandal: in 2023, the NCAA launched an investigation into claims that University of Michigan Wolverines football players had committed complex sign stealing in violation of NCAA rules and launched an investigation into the allegations If the allegations are proven, the University of Michigan program will be labeled a cheater and could face severe consequences

The investigation is still ongoing, and several people, including the Stallions, have already been punished or lost their jobs; in Untold, the Stallions are the first to mention these allegations, even though they may cause further harm to Michigan's football program

If subtitles are okay, this Netflix movie is one to watch this week

Directed by Umberto Hinojosa Ozcaris and starring Alfonso Herrera, Simena Ramadrid, Juan Pablo Fuentes Acevedo, Fernando Cuttoli, and Renata Mantellora, “The Untamed Royals” (or “Príncipes Salvajes) portrays a group of young, wealthy, privileged people who use their high status to escape heinous violent crime

However, one of their crimes comes to the attention of the police, and as the police investigation progresses, things begin to unravel This gripping drama of murder, mayhem, and class divide is one of the best new Netflix movies of the week Don't miss it

Many of us have had our share of bad relationships This Netflix documentary, a spin-off of “Worst Roommate Ever,” investigates four true stories of truly horrific relationships The episodes deal with stories of betrayal, violence, and deception, so consider this a trigger warning if you are (understandably) too upset by those things to watch

Produced by the acclaimed horror studio Blumhouse, the show uses a combination of testimony, bodycam footage, and reenactments Fans of true crime and horror should definitely put “The Worst Ex-Girlfriend Ever” on their viewing list

Watch it on Netflix starting August 28

Like “Untamed Royals,” this new Netflix series is for those used to subtitles But if so, this new Japanese young adult series on Netflix is one to watch

“The Chaste Man” stars Ai Mikami as the “love keeper” at a Japanese high school where romance is forbidden She uses her cunning to help a student who violates this policy and is in danger of being expelled, and in return pays for his tuition at the elite school The show also stars Rumi Miyase as the son of a famous governor, who helps the Love Keeper in exchange for money to escape his abusive father

“Chaos” is a British Netflix original show starring Jeff Goldblum as the Greek god Zeus That should be enough for most people, but for those who are not yet convinced, here is a more detailed synopsis

Set in the present day, Chaos stars Goldblum as Zeus, the omnipotent but wildly insecure god When Zeus notices a wrinkle on his forehead, he begins to wonder if his reign is coming to an end If so, it could mean the end of the world Paranoid, Zeus begins to lash out at his fellow gods and the three mortals who may be responsible for his downfall

Set in the same world and timeline as the original “Terminator,” “Terminator Zero” is set in a future where the AI Skynet has taken over the world To maintain its power, Skynet sends in robotic assassins, named Terminators, to eliminate potential threats from the past and present

“Terminator Zero” is not set in the United States Instead, the animated series is set in Japan in 1997, before “Judgment Day,” with Timothy Olyphant playing a murderous cybernetic assassin tasked with taking out scientist Malcolm Lee (Andre Holland) before Lee can harm Skynet He plays the role, which I will definitely watch when it comes out on Netflix
