LG Announces Razer's Super-Responsive Bluetooth Controller - Will it be a Game Changer for Cloud Gaming?

Today, LG unveiled a new prototype of what it calls “the world's first Bluetooth Ultra Low Latency (BT ULL) controller” The controller was created in collaboration with technology companies Razer and MediaTek and was introduced at the LG webOS Summit 2024

The controller can significantly reduce input latency in cloud-based gaming bt ULL is a gaming controller standard currently under development that is intended to make wireless controllers “respond as if they were USB wired or proprietary wireless communications

During the event, the BT ULL will be used for the following events

During the event, LG compared the prototype to a “standard controller”; from the images provided by LG, it is not clear exactly what the standard controller is, but it appears to be a third-party wireless Bluetooth controller

In a news post, LG stated that “the demo highlighted the superior responsiveness, reduced input latency, and control accuracy of BT ULL technology in a variety of cloud-based games, including FPS, fighting, and racing titles”

Despite the improved Bluetooth standard, not all devices need to enable all Bluetooth features Therefore, the input latency of a Bluetooth controller may vary depending on the company and specific environmental factors In most cases, less than 10-20 milliseconds is considered acceptable

LG claims that the Razer BT-ULL controller has demonstrated a “game-changing 1 millisecond input lag”

As part of the partnership, LG has partnered with MediaTek to add their MT7921 Wifi chipset to future LG 120Hz OLED and Mini LED TVs These are expected to be available in 2025

LG also said it will introduce a certification program for third-party controllers to “ensure that BT-ULL supported controllers work seamlessly with LG webOS smart TVs”

Razer will be the first company to receive this certification

No other details about this controller, such as price, release date, or name, are available yet That said, the next time we may see this BT ULL device or LG's BT ULL TV may be at CES 2025, which will be held the first week of January
