Max got the best action movie of 2024 - and it's 90% on Rotten Tomatoes

I'm not much of an action movie watcher, but when I come across one that takes me by surprise, I never forget it One such film is “Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga,” an epic dystopian action movie that took me completely by surprise when I saw it in theaters a few months ago I can safely say that I left the theater convinced that I had seen the best action movie of the year

“Furiosa” is a prequel to “Mad Max: Death Road to Fury” and focuses on the origin story of the ferocious warrior Furiosa The film follows her journey from captivity to becoming a key figure in the fight against the tyrannical general Immortan Joe against a backdrop of relentless post-apocalyptic action So, as you can imagine, the idea of being able to watch it again, this time from the comfort of your own home, is too good to pass up

Now, with the arrival of this film on one of the best streaming services, I knew I had to dive back into the chaos Furiosa is not only a great action movie, it is the best action movie of 2024 Here's why you need to stream it on Max right now

For those of you who didn't get to see “Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga” in theaters, here's a brief synopsis

The film delves deep into the origins of Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy), the iconic character who became a fan favorite in Fury Road This prequel traces back to her upbringing, exploring how the young Furiosa (Alleah Brown) was separated from her homeland at an early age and thrown into a cruel, war-torn world ruled by savage warlords The film describes her harrowing journey of survival and recovery as she navigates her way through a dystopian landscape of deadly enemies and ruthless factions

Furiosa's path unfortunately leads her into the clutches of Dr Dementas (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful leader who controls vast areas of desolate wasteland and seeks to take control of the gas supply Another powerhouse, Immortan Joe (Lacey Hulme), provides the spark, and Furiosa must overcome numerous challenges while finding her way home

If any film will take the ultimate “badass” crown this year, it will undoubtedly be Furiosa It is an action film with relentless, fast-paced chase scenes and a unique diesel-punk aesthetic One scene in particular gave me goosebumps: Furiosa's “Stowaway to Nowhere” chase scene I won't spoil too much, but it is certainly my favorite scene in the entire franchise

However, Furiosa, played by Taylor-Joy, is both fierce and nuanced Even though she has almost no dialogue in the film, she adds incredible depth to her role as a skilled warrior and determined survivor In addition to the adrenaline-pumping action, she manages to balance the fast-paced narrative with genuine emotion when it comes to Furiosa's fight for freedom

Of course, critics were also underwhelmed by the film, as it scored as high as 90% on Rotten Tomatoes (a rating it deserves because of its disappointing box office performance) Randy Meyers of the San Jose Mercury News says: “The film is skillfully shot, composed, edited, and directed, with breathless action scenes stacked like skyscrapers and a pulsating, metal-tinged soundtrack

Meanwhile, Christian Holub of Entertainment Weekly spoke of the smaller, more striking emotional touches throughout the film: “Furiosa has car chases, hordes of bikers, and fiery deaths, but even more striking are the uniquely What's even more impressive are the little moments of beauty that you won't find anywhere else

If you are looking for a movie that offers nonstop action, stunning post-apocalyptic visuals, a gripping story, and beautiful moments of genuine emotion, “Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga” is it It is more than just an “action movie”, it is a breathtaking and thrilling experience
