PS Plus2021年3月: Final Fantasy VII Remake and more free games of the month

It's March, which means a whole new set of games on PlayStation Plus, and if you're wondering what PS Plus' March selections are, the Tom's Guide team has some good news

If you are a PS Plus subscriber, you can expect four new games this month on PS4, PS5, and PSVR Even better, you have the chance to get two additional games for free

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced the details of the four games included in this month's PS Plus selection The games themselves are free, but require a monthly PS Plus subscription to play: the PS4 version includes Remnant: Maquette for PS5 and Farpoint for PSVR But the big highlight of March is "Final Fantasy VII Remake" for PS4

"Final Fantasy VII Remake" is, as the title suggests, a remake of the popular 1997 RPG In addition to a complete revamp of the gameplay, graphics, sound, and level design, FFVIIR offers a very clever take on the classic story Without spoiling anything, if you know what happened in the original game, you can use that knowledge to subvert expectations

Fans should note, however, that this version of FFVIIR is not good enough to buy the game for yourself That's because it is not eligible for the free upgrade to PS5 that Square Enix plans to offer in June A recent Sony State of Play livestream revealed that FFVIIR will receive a major PS5 patch on June 10, as well as paid PS5-exclusive DLC called Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

The PS Plus version of FFVIIR is not eligible for this patch and its accompanying DLC Therefore, if you like the game enough to continue the story, you may want to purchase it yourself

Note that the PS Plus version of FFVIIR is fully playable on the PS5 through backward compatibility The same goes for Remnant: Remnant: From the Ashes, a third-person shooter for PS4 that pits you against monsters from another dimension Fans have described it as an action-packed version of "Dark Souls," and it's worth a try if you like challenging gameplay

Maquette is the PS5 title of the month Strictly speaking, the game is also playable on PS4, but the PS Plus promotion applies only to the PS5 version In any case, Maquette is a puzzle game based on MC Escher's paintings that challenges players to think of solutions in three dimensions

Finally, there is "Farpoint," a first-person shooter for PSVR that is compatible with either the Aim controller or the DualShock 4, whichever you prefer Playable solo or in online co-op, the game explores a dangerous alien world

That's it for this month's official PS Plus lineup, but Sony has extended the PS Plus availability of Destruction AllStars until April 5 This vehicular combat game was originally slated to be a PS5 launch title, but it made its way to the PS Plus service last month It appears that Sony is trying to build its player base before making the game available for purchase a la carte

Finally, even if you are not a PS Plus subscriber, you can download Ratchet & Clank (2016) for PS4 this month and keep it forever This is part of Sony's "Play at Home" initiative, in which Sony is making popular games free for a limited time in hopes of keeping people entertained indoors during the COVID-19 pandemic Ratchet & Clank will be available through March 31, and if you haven't played it yet, it's worth your time

If you want to get any of the above games, simply find them on the PlayStation Store and select "Download" PS4 or PS5 will do the rest
