EA reportedly Revives Dead Space IP with New 'reimagining'

Apparently EA didn't get the memo that E3 2021 was over, as the publisher is set to announce the return of Dead Space at the end of next month

The news first came from a video uploaded to his YouTube channel by Venturebeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who claimed that EA was looking to revive the "established IP" This fact was later corroborated by Gematsu, who stated that the IP in question was "Dead Space" The project appears to be led by EA's Motive Studios in Montreal and is not a sequel to "Dead Space 3" but a "reimagining"

Other than this one piece of information, nothing is known about this title However, the publisher will be hosting a live EA Play event on July 22, where the game could be revealed

Dead Space is a survival horror franchise developed by Visceral Games The alien-like setting and powerful gameplay system made the game an instant hit among gamers At the time, the game was visually complex and interesting

The series spawned three tabletop games, the first of which was released in 2008 The latest, Dead Space 3, was released in 2013; Visceral Games was shut down by EA in 2017

Motive Studios' latest game is Star Wars: Squadrons in 2020 The game received solid praise throughout the gaming press and currently has a score of 79 on Metacritic

Interestingly, Visceral's original team left EA and founded a new studio called Striking Distance in 2019, under the PUBG Corporation umbrella This team is currently working on Callisto Protocol, a game very similar to Dead Space In fact, it is already being called the spiritual successor to the "Dead Space" franchise

In other words, in a strange twist of fate, the original "Dead Space" developers may find themselves competing with a "Dead Space" revival
