At the PS5 "State of Play" on July 8, Sony presented primarily indie titles, The second half of the presentation focused on AAA games and ports, including "Deathloop," "Lost Judgement," and "Death Stranding Director's Cut"
Of the 30-minute presentation, eight minutes were devoted to "Deathloop," a timed exclusive title by Bethesda Studios and Arkane Lyon In the gameplay demo, the protagonist went through the entire process of an assassination mission, demonstrating a repertoire of abilities and intense kills
"Deathloop" was the most anticipated game on display, a mix of "Bioshock" and "Dishonored," in which the assassin Colt finds himself on an island of assassins Each time Colt dies, his day is reset It's a fascinating premise that gives Colt a variety of tools, including short-range teleportation, time rewinding, and brutal melee attacks
Sega announced several titles at State of Play, including "Lost Judgment," a sequel to 2018's "Judgment" In the sequel, Takayuki Yagami, a private investigator from the previous film, investigates sexual harassment and murder
Sifu is one of the most anticipated indies on PS5 In this game, you play as a martial artist who, upon death, must replay levels at a slightly older age The premise, combined with the colorful visuals and attention to detail of realistic fighting, looks to be a solid title Unfortunately, the game has been delayed to early 2022
One of the more interesting indies on display was Jett: The Far Shore This is a planetary exploration game, without any of the resource-hunting found in other similar titles It features a stoic art style that evokes a strange kind of corporatism But the game's designers describe the title as a laid-back exploration action-adventure set in a fascinating science fiction universe It certainly sounds interesting
This PSVR title is a sequel to the original Quill, a mouse with a sword, is on a fun adventure
2019's Death Stranding was met with mixed reviews, but its unique "stranding" gameplay and engaging story made it somewhat of a cult hit The Director's Cut (a subtitle that makes little sense given that director Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions produced it with little push from the executive producer) brought many quality-of-life improvements These include more tools for hauling cargo across the US, new weapons, improved combat, new story missions, racing mini-games, and more
"Arcadegeddon" by first-time publisher Illfonic is a colorful and vibrant loot shooter similar to "Fortnite" It is not a battle royale game, but instead players can team up with friends to take on missions, fight hordes of enemies, and participate in other challenges And, of course, characters can be customized
The game is currently in Early Access and will be released in 2022
Based on the popular anime, "Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles" follows the adventures of Tanjiro as he attempts to return his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a demon, to human form The game system is similar to past "Naruto" games
In FIST, the player takes the role of an anthropomorphic rabbit with a robotic fist on his back He uses that fist to fight his way through a side-scrolling action-adventure game Graphically, the game uses detailed 3D models, but juxtaposed on a 2D plane The game world is visually dense and the characters appear expressive and interesting
Tribes of Midgard is a 10-player co-op survival RPG in which players must prepare to prevent Ragnarok The game functions as a live service title, with free updates keeping the game fresh and adding new content Season 1 of Wolf Saga will feature new classes, powerful exclusive loot, and new bosses
