Zoom has confirmed what many users have already reported That many people are experiencing audio and video problems with the video conferencing service There are also thousands of users who are unable to participate in Zoom meetings at all
As reported by Yahoo, thousands of people have complained about the issue on social media, and the site DownDetector has also reported a spike in Zoom problems in the past 24 hours, with nearly 600 comments
Update Ma 15 8:46 am ET: According to Zoom's status site, Zoom Meetings and Zoom Video Webinars are up and running However, Zoom's dashboard and reports show "slow performance"
Zoom issued the following statement on its status site: "Zoom users affected by this issue should be able to host, attend, and participate in Zoom Meetings and Zoom Video Webinars once their sessions are restarted We continue to evaluate this issue that affected a subset of our users and will monitor it to ensure that it does not further impact our operations
According to Downdetector, the most frequently reported problem was related to videoconferencing, at 72%, while 26% were related to login Problems appear to have spiked around 9:00 AM ET
Zoom previously issued an update on Twitter, stating that "the team is investigating the root cause of the problems attending Zoom Meetings The company said the problem "appears to be limited to a few users," but people on Twitter seem to disagree with that assessment
One Zoom user on Twitter wrote, "I've tried from multiple countries/devices/platforms within Zoom and they all don't work
Another user said he found a way to start a Zoom meeting by disabling the waiting room and selecting to allow "join before host" One Zoom user with a paid account wrote that when he switched to the company's free account, the meeting went well
One of the advantages of Zoom is that all meetings can have up to 100 participants by default and up to 500 participants with the large meeting add-on option However, even large meetings seemed to have problems
One user, @HeatherDCook, wrote that over 150 people have tried to connect to her conference, but all are having problems with video and audio She tried using a phone instead of a computer, but no one could hear her anyway
Zoom is urging users to visit statuszoomus for updates As of 11:00 am ET, its status site stated that Zoom meetings were performing poorly and that Zoom video webinars had the same status However, it has since been upgraded to "operational"
