iPad Pro Killer upgrade just leaked - it's coming from Samsung

Forget about next year's iPad Pro; in 2022, Apple's tablet will finally move to OLED panels, and the iPad Pro will get a major display upgrade

According to a SamMobile report, Korean media outlets claim that Samsung and LG's display divisions have been approached by Apple to start supplying OLED screens for the iPad in 2022 This means that while a Mini-LED display can be expected for next year's iPad, an iPad with a killer OLED screen would be worth waiting another 12 months

OLED panels are found in many smartphones, including the iPhone 12, but not yet in many tablets and laptops The reason for this is that OLED displays are considerably more expensive to produce and have burn-in problems due to the organic nature of the pixels In smartphones, OLED burn-in is less of an issue because they constantly display different content The same would be true for tablets

Apparently, the panels that LG and Samsung are developing for Apple will be hybrid OLED displays that are thinner than usual How this will be achieved is not revealed in this leak

Based on this report, Apple may have reached an agreement with Samsung and LG to produce OLED displays for future iPads at a price that would not make the tablet prohibitively expensive to manufacture However, this is all speculation

Samsung has manufactured OLED displays for Apple in the past (since the iPhone X), so it is not surprising that Samsung would be tapped to provide such screens for other devices Cupertino is working on

Given that OLED displays offer near-infinite contrast and true blacks, as well as impressive brightness and colorful images, an iPad Pro with such a display should be quite attractive

For 2021, however, the next iPad Pro will reportedly have to make do with a Mini-LED display Ultimately, OLEDs will provide a better viewing experience, which is not a bad thing, as this display technology promises to offer the clarity and chromatic pop of OLEDs at a lower cost

SamMobile reports that future iPad Pros may use OLED displays, while cheaper iPads will likely use Mini-LED panels

Aside from display upgrades in 2021 and 2022, the new iPad Pro is expected to feature a more powerful A-series chip and the standard iPad will have a design reminiscent of the latest iPad Air
