Forget PS5 — Scalpers are now targeting Pokemon Happy Meals

If you've been paying attention to PS5 inventory levels, you know that duffers have been making a bad situation worse by buying up inventory to sell at ridiculously high prices But now, it seems, a new and unlikely target has emerged: Pokémon cards

But not just any Pokémon cards, but limited edition Pokémon card packs available only at McDonald's Happy Meals in the US Some eBay listings are even fetching over $2,000

Not many such listings are available, and that particular seller is listing an entire box of 150 packs of cards Each pack contains four cards, including one McDonald's exclusive holographic/holo card Each card costs $334

Nevertheless, given that customers cannot walk into McDonald's and pick up the entire box of cards, it suggests that there is something devious going on behind the counter

If you don't want to buy that many packs (and why would you?), unopened individual packs sell for up to $10 each I have also seen individual cards (generally holocards) listed for sale for similar prices

The limited nature of these cards means that they are already in great demand online, especially since 50 different cards can be collected Since then, people have started arriving early at McDonald's stores and buying as many Happy Meals as possible with the intention of selling the cards online

Some restaurants have had to start limiting the number of Happy Meals people can purchase as a result

This is the same kind of tactic that large retailers had to employ to stop duffers from buying up their PS5 and Xbox Series X inventory I am still surprised that the duffers are not using bots to try to buy Happy Meals in bulk through Uber Eats

Pokémon trading card games are still immensely popular, and it's easy to see why people want these cards The question is whether they are worth spending big bucks on right now, and whether the prices will crash after people start losing interest

It all depends on how concerned you are about "catching them all"
