Amazon may have unveiled four new Kindles earlier this week, but the company wasn't done releasing new devices, as it also unveiled a new Fire TV Stick.
The latest Amazon streaming device adds a new entry-level Fire TV Stick to the lineup and replaces the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite, priced at $34.99/£39.99/69 Australian dollars.
The new sticks are identical rectangular black streaming sticks that plug directly into a TV's HDMI port. Curiously, it also retains the micro-USB port for power; Amazon includes a cable and power plug.
As an entry-level streaming stick, the latest Fire TV Stick HD streams content up to 1080p HD while supporting HDR, HDR 10, HDR10+, and HLG. It also supports Dolby encoded audio, but does not appear to support Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos.
It may not have video or audio standards like the Fire TV Stick 4K or Fire TV Stick Max, but it does have at least one new feature.
The Fire TV Stick Max has an Alexa voice remote control. The remote has standard controls, power, volume, and a blue Alexa button. You can use these buttons to voice control the Stick and have Alexa navigate you to the content you want to watch. Amazon includes AA batteries for the remote control.
The Fire TV platform supports many of the major streaming services, including Prime Video, Apple TV+, HBO's Max, Paramount+, Disney+, and Netflix.
For connectivity, the stick supports Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and Bluetooth 5.0; it has a 1.7Ghz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage.
Additionally, it can play games via Amazon Luna. It can also control smart home devices and use Alexa as a voice assistant just like any other Alexa device.
Those still interested in the discontinued Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite can get them while supplies last.
Currently, the Amazon Fire TV Stick HD Streaming Stick is available for purchase. For alternatives, see our list of best streaming devices.
