With so many different streaming services competing for attention these days, smaller (and less well-publicized) services tend to get buried in the pack But that's not to say there aren't plenty of interesting movies and TV series out there
AMC Plus may have started with the intention of presenting only series that originated on the AMC cable channel, but it has since grown rapidly It has a number of ambitious co-productions as well as programs licensed from other networks, and it has developed its own original productions that are streamed and shown on AMC simultaneously From quirky sci-fi and fantasy projects to high prestige dramas, AMC Plus has a little something for everyone
There's no doubt about it Not only is “Mad Men” one of the best shows on AMC Plus, it's one of the best TV series of all time Jon Hamm plays the enigmatic Don Draper in this tale of a New York advertising agency in the turbulent 1960s
Don is the heart of the show, but the greatest strength of “Mad Men” is the depth of the supporting cast, which includes career-best performances by Elisabeth Moss, Christina Hendricks, and Vincent Kartheiser The often incredibly moving yet always interesting scripts are a comforting addition to what is often called the golden age of television The season 4 episode “The Suitcase” alone is on a respectable best-of list

When a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf share an apartment Full of supernatural shenanigans Starring Aidan Turner, Lenora Cricklaw, and Russell Tovey (all three dropped out after five seasons on the air), Being Human is known for its deft touch, bringing a whimsical and often very funny tone to its darker developments
The show won the hearts of viewers, and a US reboot was produced, which ran for four seasons on Syfy

When you see an old sitcom featuring a slovenly man and his surprisingly neat wife, you wonder what she sees in him That's what “Kevin Can't Fuck Himself” is about Annie Murphy, of “Shits Creek” fame, plays Alison, Kevin's (Eric Peterson) wife
The show is filmed through two very different lenses When Allison is with Kevin, the show plays like a traditional family sitcom, with bright studio lights and an intimidating laugh track But as Allison begins to realize the pressures of her husband, the mood becomes one of gritty, decolored drama every time Kevin leaves the room Unlike most TV dramas, Kevin Can't Fuck Himself is worth watching for Murphy's increasingly deranged performance alone

The deadly game between an assassin and the MI5 agent trying to catch her Not only did Sandra Oh show the world that she is an exceptional talent, but she has also brought Jodie Comer to the world stage, and as the two foils become entwined in each other's lives, the danger (and ripping sexual tension) for them both grows
And even if “Killing Eve” fails to maintain the momentum it built up in its electrifying first and second seasons, it is still one of the most ambitious and engaging shows of recent years Both Oh and Comer were nominated for multiple Emmy Awards, and were ultimately rewarded in 2019 with Comer winning

“Orphan Black” is a great concept TV show A woman discovers that she has multiple doppelgangers and that she and her “sisters” are the result of cloning experiments But it all falls apart without the lead character, Tatiana Maslany She gives a once-in-a-generation performance, playing 17 different characters, each with a different accent and personality Moreover, Maslany plays all of the roles so well that one forgets that they are all her roles
As the season progresses, “Orphan Black” dramatically expands in scale, with clever worldbuilding and constantly escalating stakes creating one of the most narratively satisfying science fiction dramas in recent years

Based on the hugely popular Anne Rice novel “Interview with the Vampire,” the series pays homage to both the book series and the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, but with a unique twist The romantic and sexual relationship between Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) is portrayed in mere sentences
By clearly spelling out what the 1994 film danced with homoerotic nuance, the show is able to provide a fresh take on a beloved character that only increases in depth when young vampire Claudia (Delaney Hales) joins the mix

These days, every third show on television feels like a medical drama However, “This is Going to Hurt” is different from the others For one thing, it is more of a medical drama, with plenty of fourth-wall-breaking elements and considerably less of the melodrama one has come to expect from a series set in a hospital since “Scrubs” It doesn't hurt that Ben Whishaw is cast in the lead role
It aired for only one season on BBC One and was critically acclaimed for its comedic style, and its nonsensical approach to the medical world is somewhat reminiscent of how Armando Iannucci's The Thick of It dealt with the political world
