If you missed the previous three seasons, “The Outer Banks” follows a group of Kildare Island teens searching for buried treasure along the North Carolina coast: John B Routledge (Chase Stokes) and his friends Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope ( Jonathan Davis), and JJ (Rudy Pankow) are self-proclaimed “Pogues” living on the working-class end of the island known as “The Cut” John B falls in love with Sarah Cameron (Madeline Klein), a “cook” from the affluent “Figure 8” district
Past productions revolved around the teenagers' involvement in a far-reaching conspiracy to find gold, with Sarah's real father, Ward (Charles Esten), as the main antagonist Other potential treasures are dangled in front of various hunters, and “Outer Banks” Season 4 may feature the biggest treasure of them all
Here's everything we know so far about the fourth season of “The Outer Banks,” from release schedules to casting information
“Outer Banks” Season 4 will be released in two batches, with the first five episodes hitting streamers on Thursday, October 10 The final five episodes will premiere almost a month later on Thursday, November 7
The split release model has become commonplace for the streaming giant Netflix hit series such as “Emily in Paris,” “Bridgerton,” “Stranger Things,” and “You” have all adopted a two-part release schedule in recent seasons The fourth season renewal of “The Outer Banks” was officially announced at the show's immersive fan event, Poguelandia, in Huntington Beach, California, in February 2023 'This is an incredible moment for all of us,' series star Chase Stokes announced to the crowd 'Thank you to the cast and crew for all of your hard work'
The full-length trailer for “Outer Banks” Season 4 is full of high-octane hijinks, including racing motorcycles, a scuba diving fiasco, and of course, violent explosions
On August 29, 2024, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for “Outer Banks” Season 4 John B, who plays Stokes, declares in the minute-long clip, “We've finally done it, we've finally found the gold” But of course, that was only the beginning for our beloved Pogues The story was supposed to end there But it was really only the beginning,” John B adds
The cast of “The Outer Banks” Season 4 will include the return of most of the main characters from the previous three films, both Pogue and Cook
Chase Stokes as Pogue leader John B Rutledge and Madeline Klein as his love interest, Sarah Cameron, will appear Also returning are Madison Bailey as Chiara Carrera, Jonathan Davis as Pope Hayward, Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank, Carasia Grant as Cleo, Austin North as Topper, and Drew Starkey as Rafe In addition, Fiona Palomo as Sofia will also return and be promoted to series regular for the fourth season
In addition to familiar faces, several new characters will be introduced, including J Anthony Crane (“Dead Ringers”) as Chandler Groff, a recently widowed man who sadly welcomes the Pogues' latest adventure Pollyanna McIntosh (“The Walking Dead: The One Who Lived”) appears as Daria, a “revolutionary-like leader and naive villain” who comes face to face with the Porgs
Briana Brown (“Dynasty”) joins the cast as Hollis Robinson, a big-time Kildare Island real estate agent who previously worked with Ward and now has his eye on Rafe Rigo Sanchez (“Animal Kingdom”) joins the cast as Lightner, a “dangerous and calculating outdoorsman” who tests Pogue Mia Challis (“FBI International”) rounds out the new cast group as Ruthie, a wild child who develops a close relationship with Topper
Two key cast members who may not return include Charles Estin as Sarah's father Ward Cameron and Charles Halford as John B's father Big John As viewers of “The Outer Banks” will no doubt remember, both fathers died in the season 3 finale However, the show has faked deaths before, so who knows?
Recall that in the ending of “The Outer Banks” Season 3, 18 months after the Pogue gang found gold in El Dorado, Wes Jenrette (David Jensen) proposed to the teens that they search for the treasure of the notorious British pirate, Blackbeard The idea, according to Tudum, is that in Season 4, viewers will travel back in time to see exactly what led up to that moment
After discovering gold in El Dorado, the Pogues return to Kildare Island, promising to lead a “normal” life, enjoying their newfound home - which they, of course, name “Pogelandia 20” - and running a bait, tackle, and charter tour store Netflix's synopsis reads, “But after a financial setback, John B, Sarah, Chiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo take Wes up on his offer and are pulled back into the ‘G’ game for a whole new adventure”
Before they know it, the teens are out of control and racing for the treasure, pursued by a new and dangerous band of enemies Meanwhile, their problems only grow, forcing them to question their past, present, and future-who they really are, was it all worth it, and how much they are willing to risk”
Before “Outer Banks” Season 4 begins, a little recap is in order In the Season 3 finale, the Porgs went to South America in search of the legendary treasure El Dorado and rescued John B's father, Big John Of course, Sarah's father Ward was also on the scene, but the teens managed to get to the location before he did
After cracking the code, John B and Sarah discovered a cave full of gold However, they run into big trouble when they encounter the villain Carlos Singh, who has made a deal with Ward to split the treasure During the confrontation with the villain, Big John helped his son and Sarah escape and killed Singh, also sealing the cave in the process
When Ward finally caught up with the group and threatened to shoot Big John, another obstacle presented itself Singh's henchman Ryan also arrived and held a gun to Sarah's head Ward tackled Ryan and saved his daughter, and they both fell over the cliff, presumably dead (They both fell off the cliff, presumably dead (Again, “Outer Banks,” so we'll never know) Although he was safe from Ward, Big John was still in trouble The Pogues rushed him to the doctor, but it was too late
The episode was then fast-forwarded 18 months, and Pogue was honored for solving the mystery of the Eldorado treasure Their future was set: John B and Sarah had opened a surf store, Key had saved the turtles, Pope had gone off to college, and JJ had bought a charter boat But things took an unexpected turn when an admirer named Wes Jenrette came to show them Edward Teach's 1718 logbook Yes, the Pogues' treasure-hunting days were not over after all
As of September 2024, “Outer Banks” Season 5 has not been announced, and Netflix has made no official announcement as to when this teen drama will end
However, show co-creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke have previously said that the show was originally planned to last four to five seasons Pate joked to Entertainment Weekly that “The Outer Banks” could last 17 seasons (“I'll be on Mars by then,” he said )
More seriously, Josh Pate said: “How long it takes to get to that ending may be inflated, but I know what the end of the story will look like We're going to do it for as long as we can”
Netflix announced in February 2023 that “The Outer Banks” had received an early renewal for season four, just days before the show's third season premiered The fourth season is scheduled to be released on October 10, and fans will soon get an update on a possible fifth season and the future of the popular show
