The 2024 Emmy nominations have officially been announced, and if it feels like we just talked about the 2023 Emmy nominations, you're right: the 2023 Emmy nominations arrived on time, but the actual awards ceremony took place last year when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA took place this past January due to the strike
This year, however, things are proceeding as planned Nominations will be announced this week and the awards ceremony will take place on September 15 This gives us two months to catch up on the best programs broadcast between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024
Lucky for me, I've seen so many of these shows (over 30 new seasons this year alone) that I know which ones are must-sees and which ones are (usually) still great but can be saved for later
So without further ado, here are seven Emmy-nominated shows that you should watch right now
25 Emmy nominations
In my preview of the most anticipated new shows for 2024, I mentioned that FX might do “Game of Thrones” on “Shogun” Now that seven months have passed and all ten episodes have aired, I can say without a doubt that I was right Emmy voters seem to agree, and the show's first season was nominated for an astounding 25 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and all four acting categories for Drama Series
In my review of the first two episodes, I emphasized that the show excels because of its well-crafted action and flashes of violence interspersed with scenes of verbal and political gamesmanship It is the best show of the year and I have high hopes that it will win the Outstanding Drama Series Award

Nine Emmy nominations
Don't let the paltry nine nominations fool you; “Shogun” may be the best show of the year, but “Slow Horses” is the best show on TV The best show on TV Period This British spy drama stars Gary Oldman as fallen MI5 agent Jackson Lamb and is based on Mick Herron's “Slow House” series of spy novels I named it the top TV show of 2023 last year because of its pacing, casting, and blend of comedy and drama
I expect voters will ultimately give “Shogun” the award for Outstanding Drama Series, but my vote is for “Slow Horse” Season 3 There is no weakness in this show I am hoping that Gary Oldman's portrayal of Lamb will win him the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series

23 Emmy nominations
The latest season of “The Bear” was mixed, but Season 2 is fantastic with 23 Emmy nominations, the most ever by an Emmy voter I fully expect it to win all four categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Comedy Performance of the Year, for which it is nominated in a total of five categories
In my top 10 last year, the show's second season was right behind “Slow Horses” but ahead of the Apple TV British drama in one area The seventh episode of season two, “Forks,” was the best episode of television I've seen in 2023, and I don't think any episode since has surpassed it For that reason alone, this show is a must-see
Available on Hulu or Disney Plus
13 Emmy nominations
This show was released while I was on leave, so I never had the opportunity to write about it for Tom's Guide This is because “Ripley” is the best limited series of the year It comes as no surprise to me that not only were Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning nominated for Best Acting, but they were also nominated for Best Limited/Anthology Series
It also comes as no surprise that the film received several other nominations, including for writing, directing, design, and cinematography The show is impeccable, even more so considering that it is entirely in black and white The first two and a half episodes drag on a bit, but the remaining episodes of the eight-part series hold your hand until the end, and while the 1999 movie starring Matt Damon was good, “Ripley” is a great example of Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr

Six Emmy Awards Nominations
For a while I had “3 Body Problem” as the best show of 2024 That was on March 8, four days before “The General” continued to announce the best episodes of the year each week for three weeks But as of today, this eight-episode Netflix show is still my four best of 2024 It also has one of the best episodes of television this year, “Judgment Day,” which accounted for four of the show's six Emmy nominations this year
This sci-fi thriller is perhaps better than the sum of its parts, and I am not going to pretend that it is without flaws Liam Cunningham's performance as Wade, the mysterious leader of a multinational secret intelligence agency, is worth watching for that alone
Available on Netflix
16 Emmy nominations
Mr & Mrs In my review of the first season, I called it “the funniest show I've ever seen in 2024”
While not the best show of the year (I currently rank it fifth), the show does everything it tries to do well and appeals to a wide audience Do you like action? This show has a lot of that Do you like workplace drama? Then this show is for you Of the 16 Emmy nominations, I think Sarah Paulson could win for her performance in “Couples Therapy (Naked & Afraid)” But whether or not the show will be a major Emmy contender, it is certainly one of the shows nominated for an Emmy

16 Emmy nominations
On my list of best shows of the year, “Fallout” is only #6, but it is higher than “Fargo,” which I picked fifth last year I am also not surprised by its many Creative Arts Award nominations in addition to Outstanding Drama Series The show sometimes makes you wait for something truly epic to happen (spoiler alert: it eventually does), but “Fallout” looks incredible Jonathan Nolan and his co-creators really nailed recreating the world of the iconic video game series that the show is adapting
But for me, the real highlight of the show is Walton Goggins as the ghoul Those who know me will not be surprised to hear me say this, as I love Goggins in general and his role in “Justified” in particular But those who have seen season one of “Fallout” will know that his nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series was, well, well deserved
