The wait for the follow-up to 2015's "Mad Max: Death Road to Fury" was a long and difficult one, but it seems to have been worth it - at least as far as the first official trailer for "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," released today
The upcoming film, a prequel to "Fury Road," chronicles the early days of Furiosa, memorably played by Charlize Theron in that film, now played by Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Queen's Gambit," "Last Night in Soho")
Furiosa is expected to detail the events that led to the character becoming an Imperator and the driver of Immortan Joe's war rig Chris Hemsworth ("Thor," "Extraction") appears to play the film's villain, opposite Taylor-Joy An action-packed trailer for [Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga] can be checked out below
From the above, it appears that director George Miller has not escaped the madness that one might expect from the "Mad Max" series
The action, like "Fury Road," looks rough, with explosions, chases, and car stunts, but there is a surprising amount of green screen
I'm also not sure about the tacky fake nose Hemsworth wears It might work in the context of the finished film, but it is certainly quite distracting in this trailer
Still, the story of Furiosa seems to have a larger scope than that of Fury Road, which was more or less told in two days It is clear that the film is not centered on one big chase, but on the odyssey of a single character over a longer period of time For example, Furiosa still has both arms and long hair for most of the trailer
As for when Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga will be released, the release date in the US is set for May 24, just in time for Memorial Day weekend Internationally, the film will be released on May 22
Presumably, Warner Bros Discovery can no longer guarantee a theatrical release to streaming, but US streaming of "Max" will continue for some time after that
