I've just tried Liteboxer VR for Oculus Quest2 - and it actually makes for a fun workout

Whether you're flying around in Microsoft Flight Simulator or playing FPS, the Oculus Quest 2 is one of the best VR headsets for the job But it's also morphed into a compelling workout device, and we found that compelling when we got a chance to punch out a few rounds and vent our frustrations with Liteboxer VR, a new virtual boxing app that debuted at CES 2022

Liteboxer VR is an extension of Liteboxer's existing home exercise equipment Instead of punching physical objects, however, it uses the Oculus Quest 2 and its controller to hit the air (the app can also be used without a controller) Currently in beta, the app is expected to be released in late February or early March

Liteboxer currently sells what it calls Liteshield, a hexagonal contraption with six circular punching pads that sync with its app When one of the pads is tapped, it registers with the app

However, Liteshield must be wall mounted or purchased with a large floor stand If you don't have room for a physical Liteboxer or don't want to spend $1,245 on equipment, the Liteboxer VR offers a more affordable and portable experience

If you subscribe to a Liteboxer subscription ($29/month), you can access VR workouts for free However, VR only costs $1899/month

Within the app, users can select any number of recorded training sessions and classes, or choose a "beat-driven workout" that synchronizes punches to a song Think of the latter option like Dance Dance Revolution, but for your fists, not your feet At the end of each song, a score is displayed, depending on the accuracy of the hit

Even better, Liteboxer has a licensing agreement with Universal Music, so you can train to popular music instead of generic techno beats It also allows users to create their own playlists

Apart from these sessions, Liteboxer has added a social aspect like Peloton, where you can compete with other users to see who can earn more points or challenge other users directly You can even face off against other Liteboxer VR users in virtual sparring sessions I was testing a beta version of the app, so was unable to test this feature

I'll wait until the final version of Liteboxer VR is available to make a final judgment, but it has the potential to be one of the best Oculus Quest 2 games Also, with rumors of an Oculus Quest Pro coming soon, it may be worth the wait to get the best Liteboxer VR experience
