According to benchmark tests leaked online, consumers who purchase the upcoming Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 will have a choice between the latest Intel Tiger Lake-U and AMD Ryzen 4000 CPUs Also, according to early leaked specs, Microsoft's upcoming laptop could pose a serious threat to competitors like the new MacBook Air 2020
Twitter user @_rogame posted a screenshot of a 3DMark 11 test The test purportedly shows the graphics score of a 27GHz Intel Tiger Lake-U processor with a boost clock of 43GHz, 4 cores, and 8 threads The Surface Laptop 4 for testing appears to have a 256GB hard drive and 16GB of RAM
According to results posted online, the Intel processor scored 8412 on the 3DMark 11 Physics test and 5540 on the Graphics test
Although not confirmed by benchmark leaks, there are rumors that the Surface Laptop 4 will feature an AMD Ryzen 4000 CPU Either way, this would be a significant improvement over the Surface Laptop 3, which has an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor (for the 13-inch model) and an AMD Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 processor (for the 15-inch model)
In our review of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, we were disappointed with the performance of the AMD Ryzen 5 3580U processor in the 15-inch model, and our friends at Laptop Mag have found the new MacBook Air's 10th generation Intel Core i5 processor and found it to be an underwhelming performer compared to the competition
Based on the Surface Laptop 3 release date, the Surface Laptop 4 will not hit store shelves until this fall However, with the coronavirus pandemic affecting all aspects of life, it would not be surprising if the release of Microsoft's laptop is delayed somewhat [Currently on Microsoft's site, the Surface Laptop 3 is available in a 135-inch model with an Intel Core i5 processor, 128GB hard drive, and 8GB of RAM starting at $999 The 15-inch version also has an AMD Ryzen 5 3580U chip, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB hard drive and starts at $999
