A new FCC list of two Samsung smartwatch models was released today, and the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 appears to be imminent
In recent weeks, we have seen some hints of a second Samsung Galaxy Watch, although Samsung has not confirmed that it is working on a next-generation flagship wearable Instead, we've relied on unclear model numbers for insight, but now an FCC listing lets us know that the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 is the real deal - and it's probably coming soon
As Droid Life points out, Samsung's last smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2, debuted four days after receiving its FCC certificate last summer There is no guarantee that the company is ready to bring its latest wearable to market, but it may be just days away from an official announcement
The listing includes a rendered image of the back of the model, labeled SM-R845, revealing a 45mm stainless steel case, Gorilla Glass DX display, 5ATM water resistance rating, military-grade durability, and GPS
A second Galaxy Watch 2 version, known as the SM-R855, may have similar specs but a 55 mm case, if the last two digits of the model number are any indication
We also know that both new Galaxy Watch 2 models will offer LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity Presumably, there will also be less expensive configurations that do not support LTE
Given the little we know about the Galaxy Watch 2, we thought it would make sense for it to debut in late summer alongside the Galaxy Fold 2 and Galaxy Note 20 lineup This would help steal the thunder from the Apple Watch 6 reveal, which is expected to introduce sleep tracking among other new features
However, Samsung may have a wearable device ready sooner than later, with a fitness-focused wireless earpiece (called Galaxy Buds X or Galaxy Buds 2) said to be on the way
When we reviewed the Galaxy Watch, it was one of the best smartwatches available, so we are definitely keeping a close eye on the impending announcement of its successor
