It is unclear if the series will be associated in any way with the recent Sonic the Hedgehog movie More likely, it will be something more family oriented that fans will appreciate
Netflix's announcement of "Sonic Prime" is a good sign for the children's market, with WildBrain (which owns "Teletubbies," "Degrassi," "Yo Gabba Gabba! and other properties) and Man Of Action Entertainment ("Ben 10," "Big Hero 6") confirmed rumors of their involvement in the project
But here is what we learned and when we will know more:
Netflix has scheduled a Sonic Prime 2022 release date, which was accidentally leaked last December At the time, the film had no title
An official press release from WildBrain revealed that Sonic Prime will air in 24 episodes There are no clues as to whether it is a stand-alone project or if Netflix will order a second season
We first learned about the Sonic Netflix show via a deleted tweet from the @NXOnNetflix account (screenshot by the excellent @Wario64)
The second feature-length Sonic movie is scheduled for release on April 8, 2022
According to the press release, we will be jumping through time and space Sonic Prime will be "a high-octane adventure in which the fate of a strange new multiverse is placed in his gloved hands Sonic's adventure is more than a race to save the universe, it is a journey of self-discovery and redemption"
While the show is positioned for Sonic fans of all ages, the press release states that "Sonic Prime aims to capture the imagination of audiences ages 6 to 11"
There is no trailer (yet), and with a 2022 release date, we expect it to be released as early as E3 2021, which will likely take place in June
A casting decision (Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, please sign me up) has not yet been announced, but we do know the studio behind the series
Sonic fans, stay tuned Sonic fans, stay tuned
